Hey All!

I guess I can officially announce that my hiatus is over!

Epic Chaos! is back, with all new content on its home site, with 10 pages of new content uploaded over the course of 5 days :D

Check it out here!

The old pages will live here on DA, but I'm completely rebooting the pages that are posted on the main website.
The Comic will be updating twice a week until the site is caught up with where it was when I first went on break.
Depending on a few factors, it may even stay at twice a week updates, only time will tell. In the mean time- please enjoy the newly redone pages as they come up :3

Hey everyone

As I’m sure some of you may have noticed, the EC! Volume 1 Kickstarter didn’t make it to the funding goal. Unfortunately, this means the book won’t be able to be made for awhile, due to funds not being raised in time before the deadline. About halfway through the campaign, I foresaw that there was a serious chance the book wouldn’t be funded this time around. I saw this as a chance to let fate dictate my next move.

If the campaign was successful, I would continue doing my usual routine of working myself into the ground to finish volume 1 and try to keep the webcomic running weekly again. If the project didn’t get funded, I would go on an extended hiatus.

I didn’t let a lot of people know about this because I didn’t want it to come off as an ultimatum “Gimme money, or I wont post art!!!” There was a lot of thought put into this decision, and I owe it to you guys to give you a proper explanation of how it came to this, and what to expect in the future.

For those of you who want the TL;DR, skip over the next part to the end.

WHY AN EXTENDED HIATUS?

One of the biggest reasons is: I am drained.

Artistically and mentally, I have been worn down from nonstop projects, conventions, and client work. I had a good update schedule going on about 3 years ago, but then I took on a project that I should have known would be bad for me. I’m not going to go into detail on the project, but essentially what happened was I took on a client that didn’t respect me as a creator, or understand the time and work that went into the project they wanted me to do for them. Taking on said project ROYALLY messed up both my webcomic, as well as the other project opportunities I had to turn down so that I could finish my ex-clients project. After months of work and failed attempts to see eye to eye with this client, I left the project. After that, I went back to working on my own comics for a little bit before being offered an amazing freelance project I simply couldn’t resist, and it was the best freelance job of my career so far (and I hope to be able to work on more projects by the same client in the future! :D )

In the time I’ve spent doing other peoples projects, my projects have suffered. My webcomic’s updating has been sporadic, I’ve been struggling to find time and energy to work on pages and scripts, I have spent the past few months doing more promotion making and promoting, and doing more convention prep than I have been actually MAKING art.

There is a lot I want to do. I want to rebuild my page buffer for Epic Chaos! so that I don’t have to go on hiatus again. I want to do more illustrating and painting, make more original art to put into my portfolio and to sell at conventions. I want to do more conventions, maybe some cons outside of California. I want to bring more books and art into the world for everyone to enjoy.

In order to do all of this, I need to NOT be constantly worried about updating pages and preparing for conventions. I’ve been doing so much, yet feeling like I’m getting nowhere; all while dealing with real world pressures, and episodes of depression and anxiety. All of this is starting to take a toll on me.

For the sake of my health, well-being, and art, I’m taking a break. I will continue updating my Patreon and occasionally Instagram, but my updates on all of my other social media accounts and the Epic Chaos! website will be slowing down exponentially. I am not laying down the pencil. I am just switching focus. I will be back, and when I come back, I’ll be better than ever. I just need to take time to get back into the swing of things.

WHEN WILL YOU BE BACK?

I’m hoping sometime this year.

I am cutting back on shows and updates so I can focus on:

1st taking care of myself for a week or two before

2nd working on art and comics

3rd working on the new (improved) Kickstarter

4th working on my convention schedule and new booth set up

I’m scheduled to appear at KrakenCon as a panelist, and another show as a Guest, but those are the only events I am committed to at this time. All other conventions and events are postponed until next year.

Epic Chaos! will return to updating when I have a decent page buffer saved so you guys never have to miss an update again.

TL;DR : Because of a few years of not taking care of myself and my art, I’m taking a vacation. Follow me on Instagram for random pictures, or on Patreon to see art progress.

WHAT ABOUT THE KICKSTARTER?

To those of you who supported the kickstarter by backing it or spreading the link around:  I want to thank you for the support. It’s you guys who make it easier to soldier on and keep at it when I’m feeling low. Raising over 60% of the kickstarter with only 73 backers is an amazing feat that shouldn’t be taken lightly! You guys are the best, and I am DEEPLY humbled to have such amazing people support my work. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wish I could hug all of you

There WILL BE another kickstarter in the future. You guys will be hearing about it once I figure out how to make it better than the first one. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This is not the end, simply the start of a new beginning, that I hope you guys will stick around for. I will be back. It’s only good bye for a short time.

Keep being amazing guys.

See you soon~
Melissa M

Hey everyone!
So if you're in the bay area on Sunday April 6th, come on out to Kraken Con!
I'll be doing a panel there on Artistic Depression with my co-host TheSpyderDuster, and I'll be roaming the convention~

I will have a few little giveaways for people who are brave enough to approach me at the Con, so don't be shy!
Be sure to look for the girl with the fan made EC! hat (flannel shirt optional)
Epic Chaos Embroidery Hat by Mysticalpchan

As for the panel itself, here is the Info! This panel covers a serious topic, but we will still try to be light hearted to keep the panel entertaining as well as educational. There will be giveaways!

Panel: FFTC!:Dealing with Artistic Depression
Time: 2:30pm-3:20pm
Where: Panel room C
Description: "Are you a creator that has or is currently dealing with depression related to artwork, comics, or stories that you're working on? Believe it or not, you're not alone, and it's completely normal (but extremely annoying)! Join Heather and Melissa as they go into what causes artistic depression, how it affects creators and their work, and how you can overcome it. Don't miss this hour of education, fun, and giveaways"

See you guys at the con!
Hey everyone!
So I'll be at ASAHiCon this Saturday March 29th at the Antioch High School in Antioch, California!
Tickets are $7 without the discount.
$5 with a current school or college ID for any education facility.

The convention is open from 10am-6pm

I'll be in the artist market place, and I will also be teaching a panel on character development!
Our panel will be at 1pm to 2pm, and it's going to be a lot of fun!
There will be fun times, and prizes!
Did I mention fun?

FFTC!: Developing Awesome Characters -
We’ve all come up with an awesome idea for a character for a story, let it be OC's to Fan OC's, but some of us have a hard time making the characters relatable or interesting. We can help with that!
Join the hosts of "From Fan to Creator!" panels & comic artists Heather Jaeger & Melissa McCommon for an hour of tips, tricks, & stories of how the girls created and developed their comic book characters, and how you can bring your characters to life! (not really, but we’re working on that)
Hey everyone! I'm preparing my files to send to the printers on Monday, the last thing to do is to put together the fan art gallery that is in the back of the books.
So if you have Fan Art for Epic Chaos! that you want in the book, send me a note/comment here on DA, or send me an Email to  deviantscar23(at)yahoo(dot)com
Space is limited in the books so it'll be first come first serve basis. Any fan art will be put on the EC! website.

Submissions close Sunday March 2nd at 9pm PST
